UW Health also has an affiliated insurance company, Unity Health Insurance. == History == UW Hospital and Clinics was established by the Wisconsin Legislature in 1924. It was originally named Wisconsin General Hospital and located at 1300 University Avenue. They were formerly part of the UW System, but since 1995 are under the control of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Authority (UWHCA), created under former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson. Providing an environment suitable for instructing medical and other health professions students, physicians, nurses and members of other health−related disciplines. *3.
